Diploma in wildlife Management

Synopsis

The course takes into account the emerging challenges in wildlife conservation and management such as community participation, trade in endangered species, species versus ecosystem conservation concepts, Trans boundary conservation issues and the role of environmental impact assessment in wildlife conservation, impact of climate change on wildlife resources, eco-tourism, sustainable wildlife utilization and human wildlife conflict management among others.

The Diploma gives competencies in wildlife conservation and management services. This involves applying principles of ecology, wildlife conservation and management, bio-geography, wilderness survival techniques, wildlife behaviour, and wildlife health and disease.

In addition, it involves the managing wildlife habitats, wildlife populations, environmental impacts, protected areas, human-wildlife interactions, wildlife utilization and wildlife conservation projects.

Objectives of the program are:

  • provide understanding and knowledge on modern concepts in wildlife management,
  • provide an insight into relevant conservation policies and legislation and their enforcement mechanism at Global and Local Level,
  • provide hands on experience and training in use of modern scientific methods, techniques and tools that are required for biodiversity assessment and monitoring of conservation goals,
  • develop understanding of landscape approach to conservation and skills for scientific wildlife management planning, and
  • develop scientific skills for resolving human wildlife conflict including capture, handling, care and management of wild animals.

  • All those who may fulfill the basic eligibility requirement

Mode of Assessment Students will be assessed by use of:

  • Written essays /Assignments -50%
  • Project work –Written work 30%, presentation 20%

Award of Certificate

A candidate who satisfy the Board of examiners in all the examinations and other course requirement shall, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners be awarded the Diploma in Wildlife Management.
